Audio
Alchemy Dti Pro 32 and Power Station 3
sold
So, you have a
transport, maybe a DVD player or something fairly
cheap. And you have a DAC, perhaps something in the
$500 to $1000 range.....and you want to improve the
sound and eliminate all that nasty jitter....!
Well this is the
unit you've been looking for. That's not to say that
this won't bring a benefit in a much more expensive
rig. With the Power Station 3, this retailed for
over $1800 and was worth every penny. As my digital
front-end has changed over the years, this has
remained the one constant....until I bought my Audio
Aero Capitole a few months ago I wouldn't have done
digital without the Dti Pro 32.
This is more than
just a unit to eliminate jitter, it also increases
the word length resolution of the signal coming from
your transport. You have selectable options from the
front panel for different word lengths from 16 up
through 24 bit.
This unit will also
pass HDCD signals (only useful if your DAC accepts
HDCD).
The Dti Pro is in
great condition. There are a couple of very minor
marks on the unit, one very small one of the
faceplate, but it looks and works great.
Functionally, all
the Dti's are a little quirky....you need to plug
the cables into the unit in the correct sequence.
What I found is that you need to plug the transport
cable into the unit, then plug in the DC power
supply from the Power Station 3, THEN, make the
final connection to the DAC. Otherwise you won't see
a 'lock' light.
The sound is
awesome. Bass is deeper and tighter, with better
imaging and soundstage. By eliminating jitter, the
sound is more analog and more resolving of detail
that is otherwise masked by the poor transfer of the
data stream.
I've owned this
unit for around 4/5 years and it's worked flawlessly
throughout that time. It's crazy to think that an
$1800 unit can be had for this price, but what the
heck....I don't need it now that I have a one-box
player, so someone else may as well enjoy it.
I'll send along a
stock PC and of course the umbilical between the
power supply and the Dti. There's no manual but you
can download a PDF manual from the web - I'll find
one for you if you can't.
Last point - this
is the 32 bit version, not the older unit which was
not as resolving.
