Your Friends and Neighbors with a Conrad Johnson Gold
Faceplate.

Yes, become the
talk of the neighborhood by owning my CJ with a gold
faceplate.
The modern day
equivalent of performing magic tricks, your friends
will 'oohh' and 'aahhh' when they see this beaming
forth from your equipment rack.
Furthermore, it
does not have any markings, knobs or dials, so when
they ask "what is it", you can answer
"it's a transmoliator for hyper-extending the frequistics"
(or whatever you want to tell them).
YOU should buy
this just because it looks so cool, that's what I
did.
For those needing
justification, it's a Conrad Johnson Model HV-1
Nuvistor Pre-Preamplifier (don't miss the extra
'pre' in there, it means something).
This unit contains
potentially lethal voltages, so you shouldn't
operate it with the cover off, and has a really nice
looking gold faceplate.
What does it
do?...it's a head amp (step-up transformer) for a
low output cartridge. You take the signal from your
cartridge into the transmoliator then out from the
transmoliator into your phono preamp. It does NOT
replace the need for a phono stage.
Of course, this
unit has the legendary Nuvistor tube, which grabs
the signal and massages it till it becomes all soft
and mushy. (not really, it sounds superb!).
Well the front
looks fine but the rest of the case is a bit tatty.
Some knobend at the hifi store placed one of those
barcode stickers on the back, and I can't get it
off. The first picture shows the sticker in place,
the second picture is after I've tried to remove it,
and the last picture is my cat. Look, who cares
about the back of the unit, this thing works great
and has a gold faceplate.
So what are you
waiting for, this is just what you've always wanted,
now bid for it.
