Thanks to Nate
for getting this off the ground, and thanks to everyone who
attended.
The meeting
served as a great spring-board for future meetings, and
reaffirmed peoples interests in making this a regular event.
Nate opened by
outlining his ideas for the meetings and future events, and
was met with positive vibes from everyone in the room, all
expressing a clear and common interest in making this a
success.
The discussion
developed into a brainstorming forum where people suggested
ways of promoting the group and expanding the member base.
The idea of
developing a website was discussed and it was agreed that
having an Internet presence would be a good way to attract
interest from potential members.
Goals for future
meetings were discussed by the group, and it seemed to be a
unanimous decision that having involvement from local
retailers at future meetings would be a positive move, and
also, perhaps further down the line, having involvement from
equipment manufacturers.
Carl mentioned
that he thought manufacturers might respond positively to any
publicity that could be passed their way using the Internet,
and it was agreed that using the website could facilitate
this.
Several people
mentioned and related to the idea of having equipment
shoot-outs, and that is definitely something that will be
included in future meetings.
Getting the
formalities over with, we then enjoyed some very musical
sounding tunes courtesy of Nate's wonderful system.
Later in the day
some of us moved on to Greg's place and then later to Carl's
pad.
On the whole
this was a very enjoyable day, with an open and casual
format.
Action Points:
-
Please pass
along comments and ideas on the website. I've laid out
some basic ideas but we need to develop new ideas and
build them into the design. Of course there is a lot of
content missing, but I will peck away at it over the
coming weeks. Please send any suggestions to me via email
at carlh@netnet.net
-
We touched
on putting together a basic flyer that we could pin up at
local retailers to promote the NEWAS - we didn't assign
this for action, any volunteers?
-
I think I
was assigned the job of talking with Chris VenHaus about a
practical workshop on cable assembly. I will talk with him
and report back at the next meeting.
-
We need an
'agenda' for future meetings and we need to formalize
things a little more so that someone is assigned to take
some brief notes and produce meeting minutes. Perhaps we
can discuss this at the next meeting....or maybe we can
just pick a volunteer like Greg, for example!
-
We need to
assign someone to be 'liaison officer' or whatever, so we
can communicate between the group effectively in between
meetings, and keep the forward momentum.
-
We need to
get another meeting date pulled together, so that everyone
has sufficient time to get organized. Perhaps Nate can
float some dates via email and we can start to see what
does and does not work out.
-
Let's think
about the next venue also, I'm happy to host an upcoming
event, and I think it was Jeff or Dan that also expressed
an interest in holding the meeting. We need to nail that
down in the next couple weeks if we can.
That's all I can
think of for now. I'm checking into software to empower the
website with a message board and maybe a chat room facility. I
thought it might be fun to hold an online chat session at some
time in the future, and invite a manufacturer to join the chat
at a scheduled time/date. We could open that up on AudioGon
and probably get a good response.
Take Care
Carl
