From Meeting (Wilbur) |
This
was definitely more a get-together than a meeting but boy,
what a get-together. That’s
what I get for missing the first meeting where they talked
about group goals, membership ideas and the like.
In a lot of ways I’m sort of glad we didn’t talk
about that type of thing this time.
The main topics were just getting to know everybody,
what their systems were like and how they got there, cars and
just about anything else that caught our fancy.
One topic that I brought up to various people was on
tuning a room. All
I’ve tried using so far is live plants so some very good
ideas. Brian might
even have a pair of bass traps that I can try before buying or
building which is real sweet.
There was a good rotation of different music brought by
different people with people trying the sweet spot for serious
listening. The
sound was pretty good though throughout the room.
We did have a minor problem with the Conrad Johnson
MV-55 that Brian brought down.
We started playing some music once it warmed up and
John was sitting in the chair in front of the right speaker
and mentioned the right tweeter was gone.
After Brian checked the CJ he found he had blown a
fuse. As John
brought up it was really strange that a fuse would blow
without bringing down the entire channel.
Brian had got the amp from Specialized Sound here in
Madison
and after
a little running around he got the CJ up and running.
Elton has the privilege of working part time for
enjoyment at University Audio here in
Madison
.
One topic that was a lot of fun was when Elton got here
and started talking with John about the owner of University
Audio. That was a
lot of fun. Lou
showed up about
6:30
when the
CJ’s were playing and brought some interesting music and a
very interesting toy. Paul,
Brian, Lou and I got to hear the CJ’s playing with the
Soliloquy 6.3’s. Paul,
Brian and I got to hear the difference between the JVC SS amp
and the CJ tube. The
general consensus was that the JVC had more control in the
bass with more punch and impact but the CJ added so much
warmth and a somewhat liquid flow to the music that was very
enjoyable. Now if
I can just afford a tube amp and a SS it would be great.
Lou did bring a very interesting toy.
A Blue Circle Noise Hound.
Info on it is posted in the tweaks corner.
When I had originally proposed a meeting here in
Madison
to
Squidboyw and Nrchy I told them I would feed them but they had
to bring their own drinks.
Although they didn’t make it the food did.
We had Barbeque Beef, Kicked Up Macaroni and Cheese
with a Barley Salad. Food
was good and thanks to all that brought something to drink.
The Yellow Tail from Dan and Jeff made it to my
cousin’s for Thanksgiving to spread the good cheer.
The Bogle’s from Paul I definitely will be enjoying
at a later date. Brian
and Lou left about
12:30
. It was a
great day and looking forward to seeing people again.
