Dan's
Profile

I've been into collecting
music in a big way since late childhood when a teenage
uncle who had a part time job caring for my parent's three
sons alleviated his boredom with us by taking us on many
long country drives in the late 60/early 70s exposing
us to Hendrix, early Zep, Savoy Brown etc...I was hooked and
have been ever since. I still have parts of my first
rig...AR TT, Kenwood integrated, Electrovoice 3 ways etc...I
began getting into jazz in college and have been picking up
a lot of jazz vinyl in the last 15 years or so. My
first "real" stereo came by way of "forch"
whose hand me downs infected me with the audio bug in the
form of Hafler amp/preamp and Merrill modified AR
table/ Linn arm. I later upgraded to some value
conscious tube equipment (late 80's MFA) and recently a
Scheu TT and Bel Canto DAC. I am in the process of
exploring alternatives to my 13yr old Essence Gem speakers I
have always loved but whose time has come.
Musically, I listen to roughly
equal parts rock, jazz and classical (though by no means an
expert on the later). My tastes in rock include
the usual classic rock suspects with other favorites
including N. Young, Little Feat, Eno, T. Dolby, T. Heads,
Roxy Music etc. Jazz favorites include Miles (of
course), Bill Evans, the Count, Ben Webster, Weather Report,
Return to Forever, Bill Frisell, Patricia Barber, Dave
Holland. I have also been getting into new folk
(miserable term) and enjoy Richard Thompson, Pentangle and Loudon
Wainwright III, as well as more trad. sounds of Allison
Krause, Doc Watson etc.
I've really enjoyed the group
so far and have always come away from a meeting with some
new gear or music heard and interesting conversation.
